‘People’s Solidarity to Emancipate General’ has taken measures to commence a ‘fast unto death’ agitation demanding the government to release former Commander of the Army Gen. Sarath Fonseka who is being arbitrarily detained.

Ven. Lunugamvehere Kalyanaranshi Thero, speaking to the media, said their organization decided to launch the ‘fast unto death’ agitation as the government, without responding to the ‘fast’ the ‘People’s Solidarity to Emancipate General’ organization launched yesterday, deployed the police to remove the cubicle erected to continue the ‘fast’ forwarding an unacceptable court order.

When the ‘fast unto death’ agitation commenced Ms. Anoma Fonseka was present and said she appreciated the decision by the ‘Maha Sangha’ to come forward on behalf of her husband who is a national hero. She said a massive people’s power is developing in the country to get Gen. Sarath Fonseka who is being unjustly and unfairly detained released and no one would be able to suppress this force she added.
